Description
I started off this project under the basis of my driving question “How can I help Mr. Viets and Mr. Phill deal with their increased workload due to Covid-19”. I chose this as my driving question because I had known for previous years at school that administration and IT are always getting slammed with work, and I figured it would only be worse due to covid. I first went to administration to see if there was anything I could do to help out, and they forwarded me to the IT department.
I first went to Mr. Phil, the head of the department, and he pointed me towards Mr. Viets, the director of the volunteers. I met with Mr. Viets shortly after reaching out to him over email and during our first meeting is when I really got the idea for my project. Mr. Viets told me about a project he was working on, and told me I could take it up for my Senior Project, and that's what I ended up doing.
Mr. Viets was looking for a free program that he could put on the Chromebooks that would make sure the students were doing their work. There already exists a free program like this, but it only works when the Chromebooks are at the school, and due to COVID the school has been lending Chromebooks to students in need of a computer since almost all school work was transferred to online. So my job was to look for a program that was free, and able to work away from the school.

Evidence of Project
21st Century Skills
I would say the main skill I used was my Communication skills. Considering the content of my project, I did not at all think my most used and improved skill would be Communication. One example that I've used my Communication skills mainly for this project is the fact that I've sent more emails to teachers and staff for this project than I have in all other years of high school combined. I learned a lot not only for my project but about what working life will be like because of all these emails. I learned that well people do want to help when you're working on a project, a lot of times they won't be able to get back to you immediately. The reason you can't always get immediate responses is because almost all of these people are adults with full time jobs and responsibilities, and sometimes you need to send follow-up emails because emails can be missed.
The second skill that I used and improved on is my Time Management skills. The senior project in general emphasizes freedom, and with that freedom comes the responsibility of managing your time to do the project. There are check in's throughout the year to make sure everyone is doing okay, but other than that it's your responsibility to finish your project on time. One of the first assignments was making a timeline for our projects, but following that was solely dependent on us. I learned that you need to allocate more time to parts of the project that involve other people because you can't control how quickly they get back to you or complete the task you're asking them to do. On the other hand the more independent parts of the project can be completed much quicker.
